BRITAIN is home to over 61,000 sex offenders — and almost half of them are paedophiles.

(and how many of them are social workers?  judges?  preists?  police officers?  teachers?  cafcass officers?  my estimate is thousands)

The shocking figures were uncovered by the NSPCC just weeks after it was revealed how Jimmy Savile preyed on young boys and girls.
In a Freedom of Information request the charity found that out of 61,397 registered offenders in Britain, 29,837 have committed crimes against children.
And 941 have gone on to re-offend, despite being monitored by the authorities, according to National Police Improvement Agency figures

The NSPCC is now calling on the Government to provide an annual breakdown of the number of paedophiles on the register, how many go on to re-offend and how many cannot be traced in each area.
Last night NSPCC expert Jon Brown said: “Re-offending rates for sex offenders have risen in recent years, but until now we did not know how many of these involved abuse of children.
“From now on, we want a separate tab kept on the number of child sex offenders in this country and how many go on to abuse again.
“Any offender with a history of child sex abuse should be considered a risk to children’s safety for the rest of their lives.”
The figures were released as it emerged children as young as ten have been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Figures obtained under Freedom of Information laws revealed 24 forces detained children under 13 for suspected rape in the past year, and seven arrested at least one 10-year-old.

THERE is no way of really knowing how many offenders have re-offended because the victims can often take years to come forward.
And while these figures are sadly shocking they are unfortunately no surprise to us.
We say: What about the public’s right to be protected? What about the child’s right to a safe childhood? Why does the system allow known dangers out to harm again and again?
Nothing will change until offenders are sent where they belong — to fully working jails.
