Mother Jailed For Murdering Son Over Koran

Sara Ege, 33, treated Yaseen like a "dog" and repeatedly beat him with a stick for failing to memorise religious texts.

A mother has been jailed for life after beating her son to death for failing to learn the Koran by heart and then burning his body to hide the evidence.
Sara Ege, 33, collapsed as the sentence was delivered at Cardiff Crown Court and had to be helped, trembling and sobbing, from the dock.
Ege had been praised as a "brilliant mother" to seven-year-old Yaseen but was convicted of his murder by a jury at the same court last month.
The court heard she treated Yaseen like a "dog" and repeatedly beat him with a stick for failing to memorise religious texts quickly enough.
The schoolboy had suffered multiple injuries to his body and died in July 2010 from internal injuries caused by three months of punishing beatings.
His death was treated as a terrible tragedy in the aftermath of the house blaze but it was quickly discovered that he was dead before it started.
Mr Justice Wyn Williams ordered her to serve a minimum of 17 years behind bars and said: "The violence that you perpetrated on your son was not confined to one day.
Sara Ege
Sara Ege tried to blame the murder on her husband
"I am satisfied that, over three months, you beat him on a number of occasions, often with a wooden pestle.
"His injuries must have caused him a good deal of pain. In my judgment Yaseen was subjected to prolonged cruelty."
Ege accused her husband Yousef Ege, 38, who stood trial with his wife, of being a violent bully who beat her and was their son's real killer.
But he was cleared of causing or allowing his son's death at home in Pontcanna, Cardiff, South Wales, by failing to act to prevent it.
Ege was found guilty both of murder and of a charge of perverting the course of justice.
Following her conviction DC Kim Roche from South Wales Police said: "Throughout this investigation we have heard many tributes to Yaseen.

"Quiet, hard-working, bright, well-behaved, obedient, respectful, polite, smiley - are just some of the words used to describe Yaseen by those who knew him.

"It is a tragedy that such a promising young life was taken away in such disturbing circumstances and that those who knew him will not have the opportunity to see him grow up to become a young man."

No support on here yet to explain how this vile act fits with the peaceful religion. Any Imans or wotsits got an excuse?

Someone please help me; how does a judge calculate 17 years? It's a very spcific number so how can a child of 7 be subject to such cruel treatment from his own mother, the very person he's supposed to feel safe with and think that 17 years should cover it? I say it often on this site but the US have the right idea: life means life or a minimum of 25 years for exceptional circumstances. These aren't exceptional, they're just awful, so life in jail, no perks, just life in a cell with 3 meals and a bed. This woman killed her own child, what part of that story suggests she's going to be a useful member of society? In this case, with admissions and compelling evidence of prolonged cruelty, how can the death sentence be considered too harsh? This is a bad person, violent and sadistic. 17 years from now she can have another kid and do the same...or maybe it'll just be one of our kids next time.

This is one of the dark sides of religion, because he couldn't memorize religious texts quick enough he was beaten and this can occur in any religion where the dominant one of the household becomes or is a fanatic.

Rest in Peace Yaseen, may your God keep you in safe in His Paradise.

I often comment about religion and SKY usually blocks my comments as of course we do not have the freedom of speech to say religion is a bad thing in the UK. Well mark my words SKY. These things will keep happening more and more as long as we give religion the right not to be criticized and instead attack science and reason when it proves religious doctrine false. Religion is an anachronism in the modern world and the UK must push to become a secular state otherwise we will become another state run by religion as we are seeing in places like Egypt. We need to enshrine it into our constitution. As the late great Christopher Hitchens said "religion poisons everything".

This killer is lucky she doesn't live in one of the muslim homelands - otherwise she would face the death penalty - possibly by stoning.

This woman was praised as a 'brilliant mother' I think not. Got the sentance she very well deserved. That a beautiful little boy should be treated so cruelly really beggers belief, as for collapsing and sobbing when sentance was handed down, just what did she expect? I don't think she will get too much sympathy from anyone.

Good. Now stop looking the other way with all the other muslim children who are beaten like this due to political correctness. Now start prosecuting parents for FGM - that is already illegal and frankly barbaric! It is time the tide turned on this topic.
